PIP ruling in France gives hope to PIP breast implant victims in the UK

Important TUV 5 PIP Implant Claims Update: July 2021

We are no longer accepting new clients under the TUV 5 wave of PIP claims.

Other firms may still be taking on new TUV 5 clients and we would recommend that you make urgent enquiries if you want your claim to be considered.

We do not know whether there will be a TUV 6 group in the future, but we will post news on this when a decision has been made.

PIP lawyer Oliver Thorne was in Paris to hear the verdict of France’s highest court on the PIP scandal.

Oliver heads our cosmetic surgery law team and has been campaigning for justice for the thousands of women who received the faulty PIP breast implants.

He was obviously delighted when news reached him of the court’s decision to overturn an earlier ruling which looked to have closed down any chance of PIP victims receiving justice.

Oliver attended a press conference in Paris immediately after the verdict was released. He was the only UK representative at the PIPA (PIP Implant World Victims Association) event, appearing alongside French lawyer Olivier Aumaitre, who has spearheaded the legal challenge in France.

Welcoming the ruling, Oliver stated:

“This is tremendously exciting news for all the women who have suffered as a result of PIP implants. The French court’s judgement means that the hundreds of British women I am already representing will be now be able to pursue their claims for compensation.”

Oliver added:

“Importantly, the ruling also opens the door for other British women who thought they had missed out on the chance to recover damages to now present a claim.”

Those familiar with the PIP scandal will recall that the French company Poly Implant Prothese, which manufactured the faulty breast implants, went bankrupt, leaving thousands of women without any way of recovering compensation.

Oliver and his legal counterparts in PIPA therefore turned their attention to a German company, TUV Rheinland, presenting a case in the French courts that the implants should never have been certified.

Oliver said:

“I am relishing the next round of the battle to ensure that all my clients in the UK finally receive the compensation they deserve.”
