What is CoolSculpting
The CoolSculpting procedure delivers controlled cooling to target the fat cells underneath the skin. Treated fat cells are frozen, which destroys them and over time your body processes the fat and eliminates these dead cells.
The procedure can treat visible areas of fat in places such as, under the chin, thigh, abdomen and flanks, along with bra fat, back fat, underneath the buttocks, and upper arm.
CoolSculpting is a noninvasive way of losing excess fat, making it more popular in the last decade. The procedure is quick and easy, so it can even fit into someone’s lunch break.
What can go wrong with CoolSculpting
CoolSculpting can cause mild or moderate discomfort and it is also known to put you more at risk of nerve pain.
However, in some instances people who have undergone this procedure have developed a serious complication called paradoxical adipose hyperplasia (PAH). This means that the number of fat cells in the treated area increases, instead of decreasing, giving the opposite effect to what you desired. This can lead to further correction surgery being needed, such as liposuction, causing more pain and more expense.
Additional side effects that can develop in association with CoolSculpting include:
- late onset pain,
- freeze burn,
- vasovagal symptoms,
- subcutaneous induration,
- hyperpigmentation, and
- hernias.
