We have dealt with lots of claims arising as a result of a failure to carry out a patch test. In this case summary, we look at a claim we successfully pursued on behalf of a man who won a free hair treatment in a competition.

Our client was the winner of competition on Tik Tok. He and fifteen other participants won the chance to receive a free hair system. As our client had suffered from hair loss and thinning since his late teens, he was exceptionally happy to have won this opportunity.

The procedure involved shaving his head and cleaning the skin with a solution, before applying glue to hold the hairpiece in place. He was told this would last for at least two months.

Unfortunately, problems began to arise three days later. The glue caused his scalp to become red, hot and itchy. These symptoms increased in severity until he removed the hair piece and saw multiple inflamed sores that had developed on his scalp.

The chemicals within the glue had caused him to suffer an allergic reaction which continued for a period of six weeks.

He felt that this problem could have been avoided had the clinic performed a simple patch test before providing treatment.

Due to the physical injuries he suffered, alongside the detriment to his mental health, our client contacted us to seek compensation.

We agreed to take on his claim and to work on a no win, no fee basis.

After submitting a claim to the insurers of the company that provided the hair system an admission of legal liability was obtained and an out of court compensation settlement was reached.
